iPhone and iPad Troubleshooting
If you experience any issues connecting your BlueDriver scanner on an iPhone or iPad, follow the steps below in order.
1. Identify your scanner type
Newer Bluetooth LE BlueDriver scanners are paired from inside the BlueDriver app, not from the iPhone or iPad Bluetooth settings.
You can identify the scanner type by checking the side of the scanner:
If the scanner says LE, it is a Bluetooth LE scanner.
If the scanner does not say LE, it is a classic Bluetooth scanner.
BlueDriver Pro Next-Gen scanners are always Bluetooth LE.
2. Unplug the scanner
If the scanner is currently plugged in, unplug it first.
3. Check for other paired devices nearby
Make sure there are no other paired phones or tablets nearby with Bluetooth enabled, as they may try to connect automatically.
If another phone or tablet has previously paired with this scanner, turn Bluetooth off on those nearby devices before trying again.
4. Check Bluetooth
Open your iPhone or iPad Bluetooth settings and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
5. Check the ignition
Confirm that the engine is running or that the ignition is in the “Run” position.
If you are reading codes with the engine off, please refer to the related article for reading codes without the engine running.
6. Plug the scanner back in
Plug the scanner back in and watch for the scanner light.
If using BlueDriver Pro, the scanner should show a solid blue light at first, followed by a flashing red light.
If using BlueDriver Pro Next-Gen, the scanner should show a solid blue light at first, followed by a green light.
7. If using a Bluetooth LE scanner
For Bluetooth LE scanners, pair from inside the BlueDriver app.
Fully close the BlueDriver app, unplug the scanner, make sure the ignition is on, reopen the app, plug the scanner back in, and wait for the in-app pairing prompt.
8. If iOS cannot find the scanner
If your iPhone or iPad cannot find the scanner:
Fully close the BlueDriver app.
Leave the ignition on.
Unplug the scanner.
Toggle Bluetooth off and back on.
Plug the scanner back in.
Reopen the app.
Wait for the pairing prompt.
Also disable Bluetooth on any nearby phone or tablet that previously paired with the scanner.
9. If the scanner is paired but will not connect
If BlueDriver is paired on iOS but will not connect:
Open iOS Settings.
Go to Bluetooth.
Forget the BlueDriver device.
Turn Bluetooth off and back on.
Unplug and reinsert the scanner.
Reconnect from the BlueDriver app.
10. If a classic BlueDriver scanner will not pair
If a classic BlueDriver scanner will not pair on iOS:
Leave the ignition on.
Unplug the scanner.
Turn Bluetooth off.
Plug the scanner back in.
Wait a few seconds.
Turn Bluetooth back on.
Try pairing again.
11. If no scanner light comes on
If no light comes on when you plug in the scanner, there may be an issue with a vehicle fuse. This is often the same fuse used for the cigarette lighter or power outlet.
If you contact support, they can help you identify the correct fuse.
