If you experience any issues connecting your BlueDriver scanner on an Android phone or tablet, follow the steps below in order.
1. Unplug the scanner
If the scanner is currently plugged in, unplug it first.
2. Check for other paired devices nearby
Make sure there are no other paired phones or tablets nearby with Bluetooth enabled, as they may try to connect automatically.
If another phone or tablet has previously paired with this scanner, turn
Bluetooth off on those nearby devices before trying again.
3. Check Bluetooth
Open your Android Bluetooth settings and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
4. Check the ignition
Confirm that the engine is running or that the ignition is in the “Run” position.
If you are reading codes with the engine off, please refer to the related article for reading codes without the engine running.
5. Plug the scanner back in
Plug the scanner back in and watch for the scanner light.
If using BlueDriver Pro, the scanner should show a solid blue light at first, followed by a flashing red light.
If using BlueDriver Pro Next-Gen, the scanner should show a solid blue light at first, followed by a green light.
Open the BlueDriver app and tap Connect in the top-right corner.
6. Try connecting within 60 seconds
If the app cannot find the scanner, leave the ignition on, unplug and reinsert the scanner, then try connecting again within 60 seconds. The pairing window is short, so it is important to try again shortly after reinserting the scanner.
7. If manual pairing fails
If manual pairing fails, leave the ignition on, unplug and reinsert the scanner, then try pairing again within 60 seconds. Also make sure Bluetooth is turned off on any nearby phone or tablet that has previously paired with the scanner so it does not connect first.
8. If Android paired but still will not connect
If Android paired with the scanner but the BlueDriver app still will not connect, reset the BlueDriver app data.
Before continuing, if you're using guest mode, save any reports you want to keep. Clearing app data returns the app to its default state while using guest mode. If you're signed into a BlueDriver Account, these are saved automatically.
Then:
Open Android Settings.
Go to Apps or Application Manager.
Select BlueDriver.
Tap Force Stop.
Tap Clear Data.
Reopen BlueDriver and try connecting again.
9. Toggle Airplane Mode
On some Android phones, repeated Bluetooth issues can improve after toggling Airplane Mode on and off several times, then restarting the phone.
10. If no scanner light comes on
If no light comes on when you plug in the scanner, there may be an issue with a vehicle fuse. This is often the same fuse used for the cigarette lighter or power outlet.
If you contact support, they can help you identify the correct fuse.
Still having trouble?
