VIN

The BlueDriver app identifies your vehicle using its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Your VIN is 17 letters/numbers long and can be found on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield) as well as on a sticker on the driver's side door jamb.

When connecting BlueDriver will request the VIN from your vehicle's engine computer. In most cases the VIN will be read while connecting, but some vehicles sold before 2005 may not be able to identify themselves automatically.

If the VIN is not read from the vehicle one must be entered in order to use the following features:

  • Repair Reports
  • Vehicle Specifications
  • Recalls
  • Maintenance Schedules
  • Service Bulletins
  • Enhanced Codes for Mercedes and BMW

Manual VIN Entry

If you have never used BlueDriver before, or have recently re-installed the app and the vehicle does not support reading the VIN the app will ask you if you would like to identify it manually.

If you are re-connecting to a vehicle that does not support VIN retrieval the app will ask you if you would like to re-use the last one, or enter a new VIN.

If you do not enter the VIN when prompted, you can enter it later by visiting the Vehicle Info page and tapping the VIN box at the top of the screen.

Optionally you can also tap on the barcode button to scan the VIN using your device's camera.

Note: Only the door jamb barcode can be scanned

Note: If you run a scan with no VIN entered and wish to retrieve repair reports, the VIN must be entered and then you will be required to run another scan.

Manual Year & Manufacturer Selection

If you do not wish to enter or read your VIN from the vehicle you can set the year and manufacturer manually on the Vehicle Information page

Important manual selection notes:

  1. VIN dependent features will not be available:
    1. Vehicle Specifications and Model Decoding
    2. Maintenance Schedule
    3. Recalls
    4. Service Bulletins
    5. Repair Reports
  2. If a VIN is entered or read and then the year or manufacturer are changed this will override the VIN and disable all VIN related features
  3. Manual manufacturer selection will not enable enhanced code for Mercedes or BMW

International VIN Support

Currently only North American VIN (Canada & US) decoding is available.

If you are located outside North America, but have a vehicle with a North American Equivalent you can manually enter a VIN from Decode This to enable some VIN related services, but we can not guarantee data accuracy.
